Borobudur is a significant religious place in Indonesia. Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist temple. It was built between the 7th and 9th Century or 1393 BE. There are stupas and superimposing terraces stacked up from the rectangular base. On top of the temple, there is the main stupa. It is surrounded by 72 Buddha images, which are kept inside the bell-shaped pagoda stupas. They have diamond-shaped holes cut into it. Borobudur is located in Magelang, a center of Java Island. It was built on a hill, 15 meters above the ground. That is why the temple is called “Boroburdur”, which means “a temple on tall mountain”. Boroburdur became a UNESCO’s world heritage site in 1991.
